Artist of the Week - Fans Choice - Calling Glory

I asked you guys to vote for your favorite. Our winner is Calling Glory!

Calling Glory - Don't Give Up

I want to start off by first saying thank you to everyone who took the time to vote. I really appreciate that, I love hearing from those of you who read my blog. So Thank You for all the support.

This weeks Artist of the Week is Calling Glory, as you can tell! They are a Christian group based out of Athens, TN and are currently signed to Soncured Records. The band came together in 2008 and is made up of four guys;  Dana Potvin, Jones Beene, Drew Crabtree, and Logan Early.

They released their first EP 'Daylight' in 2009.

In 2011 they released their second EP 'Teach Me To Love'.

And at the beginning of 2013 Calling Glory released their third EP 'From Heaven To Earth' and had one of their songs 'Don't Give Up' reach number 24 on the Billboard Christian Charts.

If you haven't checked this amazing band out, I really encourage to give them a listen. You can hear the dedication and time they put into their music. I have never had the privilege of seeing them live. From what I have read off of their facebook page though, it sounds like they deliver a great show. If you would like to see them live check out their facebook page to get tickets, I will post the link below where you can see their tour dates.

Here is some of their music and music videos that are some of my personal favorites. Enjoy and make sure to check out the links below to stay connected to the band! ~Christina Peace

Artist Of The Week - Alyssa Bernal

I needed a reminder why I started this and last night a good friend seen that and was quick to remind me. Sometimes we all get discouraged and having friends like I do lets me know I'm fighting for something real. I want to dedicate this blog to my California family. You taught me so much and even when it gets bad you remind me to believe in myself. Thank you! ~Christina

I hope everyone is having a great day *sings* because I am! (Hence the video) If you played the video above then you can clearly see why I have named Alyssa Bernal as "Artist of the Week". I love artists that do recordings where it's just them singing, no instruments/beats, no auto tune, nothing; just their voice. It allows the listeners to really hear the artist and gain a true appreciation for their craft.
Alyssa is one of my top favorite female vocalists out right now. She has such an amazing range and incredible control over her sound. I first heard about her about two years ago. This was about the time Pharrell Williams was getting a buzz around his new movement/label/brand 'i am OTHER'. He signed several artists, Bernal being one of them. I decided to check her out and searched her on YouTube. I scrolled through all of her videos and stopped when I seen this one:
I love the song "Showstopper" and she did a beautiful job covering it. I was instantly a fan. Over the past two years I have continued to watch and listen to this young artist as she grows musically. She has her own style and has yet to let the industry change who she is. I can appreciate and respect that in an artist, it's rare. Bernal is one of those artists I regularly check to see if she has posted any new videos to YouTube or posted new music to iTunes. So, I was ecstatic to see that she was working with a band that my sister and I consider Street Noise family. That band is The New Velvet and the combination of these two on one track is just eargasmic....yeah I said eargasmic, don't judge me! The harmonies are so incredible and some of the songs they have done together are covers, but they manage to put their own flare on it and make it theirs.

Alyssa Bernal & The New Velvet - Heart Attack (Demi Lovato Cover)

Alyssa Bernal & The New Velvet - Peaches and Coffee (Original Song)

I can't wait to see what Alyssa puts out next. I feel like she is just getting started and people will be talking about this girl for a long time. True talent never fades and she is truly talented. I hope you all check out the videos and links I am posting below. Check her out and see what else she has coming for her fans. I hope you guys enjoyed this and found some awesome new music from Alyssa. ~Christina Peace

Artist Of The Week - Wishbeard

I love getting random links from my friends (Thanks Birdie for the links!). That's how I heard about Wishbeard; this week's pick for Artist of the Week. Wishbeard is out of Seattle, WA and the four adorably cute faces seen below make up the band. Jude Miqueli is on drums, Bryn Santillan on guitar and vocals, Brighton Kenoyer on bass and Erin Resso on keyboard.
They describe their sounds as "psychedelic dream pop machine" and they live up to that. When I first got the links I didn't do any research to find out about the band or their sound. So, I had no clue what to expect when I pushed play, I assumed pop or rock when I seen the album cover. I played the tracks on the bandcamp page and what I heard blew my mind. At the time the only thing that was up was their I.H.Y.P album consisting of 2 songs: I.H.Y.P. and Runnin' Around. I played both repeatedly for a few hours vibing out and dancing around my room. I loved the effects they used on their tracks; Wishbeard has a great chill vibe and sound about them and at the same time their music made me want to dance (and I did!).

I.H.Y.P. (2 Tracks) - Released March 16, 2013
There was really epic timing on me getting the links when I did because the next day (9/13/2013) Wishbeard released their album 'It's All Gonna Break'. The four track album is just as amazing and mind blowing as the first two songs I heard, and then some! Wisbeard really delivers a sound of their own meshed with psychedelic shoegaze rock.

It's All Gonna Break (4 Tracks) - Released Septmeber 13, 2013

After listening to the 'It's All Gonna Break' album all the way through I knew I had to do some research and dub them as 'Artist of the Week'. Here is what I can tell you about Wishbeard. Wishbeard formed in 2012 and has been building their fan base ever since. They have played along side acts like Friends and Family,  Austra, JD Samson's MEN and Mary Lambert, gaining fans along the Pacific Northwest. While doing my research I found out that lead singer Bryn was recently in Mary Lambert's music video 'She Keeps Me Warm'. Bryn is Mary's love interest in the music video. Wishbeard posted a bunch of fan made GIFs of Bryn to their site, this is my favorite!
Such an adorable smile!

Okay I will leave you guys with some awesome videos and links below. Check them out and buy the latest album. It won't disappoint! ~Christina Peace

Stereotypes and New Music

I'm running behind schedule with this weeks blog, but I have some awesome links and videos to share with you all. Enjoy!

*StereoTypes*
I'm a huge fan of everything 'I Am Other' (Created by Pharrell Williams) stands for and I love I Am Other's YouTube channel. They have a lot of great mini series that they post. Most of the shows revolve around art, music, culture, society and just staying informed and educated on current events going on around us. One of the shows is StereoTypes, hosted by Ryan Hall. The new season of StereoTypes started today (9/10/2013) and this is its third season. As you can guess from it's title, it's about addressing stereotypes in our society. Some are music related, others are culture, gender and even fashion related. Host Ryan Hall takes to the streets to find out what people think of selected stereotypes and how they affect people in their daily lives. Hall brings his own personality to the show that adds humor while still being able to get a real message to the viewers. Here are a few of my favorite episodes and the links for 'I Am Other', 'StereoTypes' and Ryan Hall.

*New Music*
In honor of The Reverb Junkie's (aka Michelle Chamuel) newest album "All I Want" being released today I thought I would post the link on where to get/listen to it. I got this album around eleven today and have not stopped listening to it. She is so talented and is true to her craft at the same time. Two words can describe my reaction best....Mind..Blown! Check it out!

Listen to and get the entire album here:

Another new release came from Sarah Golden. She released a new cover video with Aaron Kaufman and Tricia Fox for "Royals" by Lorde. The harmonies are amazing and they all just make it seem so effortless. I love when the tree of them come together. I hope to see more from all of them!

Artist Of The Week - Kellee Maize

Music that has a meaning and a real story behind it is hard to come across in mainstream rap.  There are a number of exceptions to this, but chances are those songs aren't being played on the "Pop/Hip Hop" radio stations. Which brings us to our Artist of the Week, Kellee Maize. Maize is more than a rapper, she tells a story with her music. Giving her audience something positive and upbeat to relate to. More recently she took on remixing Daft Punk and Pharrell Williams "Get Lucky". She titled her remix "Do Something" and it's overall message is to make a difference and "Do Something".

Kellee Maize started her first rap group at age nine with her best friend. The duo went by the name 'Thunder and Lightning' and made a few cassettes for their parents. Once in her teens Maize moved to Pittsburgh and began studying at the University of Pittsburgh. During this time she nearly lost her mom to cancer and turned to writing to get through that. In 2000 Maize started singing and rapping on stage to build her fan base. She started losing her confidence feeling like she wasn't making a real change and wasn't financially stable. So, Maize began working at the Pittsburgh City Paper after college. She started out helping local artists, planning events, and learning about promoting. She later became the Events and Promotions Director.

After the sudden death of her father, Maize once again used music as her outlet. Along with music she used her work and love of bringing women together to work together on pursuing their dreams. From this she created her company Nakturnal. Nakturnal is a marketing and events organization that helps independent artists and raise awareness for worthy causes.

With her company Nakturnal growing and expanding Maize had time to focus on her music and began recording and releasing new tunes. In 2007 she released her first album, 'Age of Feminine'. She went on to release her second album 'Aligned Archetype' in 2010. The following year Maize dropped her third album 'Integreation' on 11/11/11 and a year later she released her most recent album 'Owl Time' on 12/12/12.

Albums:
Age Of Feminine - Released August 2007

Aligned Archetype - Released January 29, 2010

Integration - Released 11/11/11

Owl Time - Released 12/12/12

This is just part of who Kellee Maize is. There is so much more that I didn't even get touch on that makes her the entertainer that she is. There is the political side of her and the spiritual side. She's a feminist and she's about change. Artists like Kellee Maize have long careers in my opinion because they bring people together and have a lasting impact on those around them. She puts her soul into the music she records and it's a part of her that she is sharing with her fans. I am ready to hear what she is going to release next. I have been listening to her music since around 2009 and I have continued to be impressed with each new project. I hope all my readers check out the links below and check out the music, you may find something that speaks to you. ~Christina Peace

Artist Of The Week - Gospel Boys

Artist Of The Week
*Gospel Boys*

The Gospel Boys made this tribute song for Talia Joy Castellano, take a listen.
R.I.P Talia Joy Castellano
"Make Up Is My Wig"

The Gospel Boys caught my attention recently when they wrote the song above for Talia Castellano after she passed away on July 16, 2013. She had been battling cancer and had a huge impact on so many of us around the world in one way or another. Once I listened to the song I started doing some research to see what else they have recorded. This is some of the music I found:

While doing my research on this duo, I learned they are from Nassau, New Providence in the Bahamas. There they have performed at "Fam Fest" and they placed second in the rap category in the local "Talent Jam Show". In late 2011 the Gospel Boys debuted their song "Fly Away' on a local radio station Joy 101.9 fm.

I'm so glad I came across these two talented young men. We live in a society where "Christian" music isn't always popular. Still they stay true to who they are and put out great music. They are still not that well known, but I see that changing in the future. I hope they continue what they are doing and bettering their craft. I wish them nothing but the best. I can't wait to see what they do in the future and I hope to hear more music from them soon. ~Christina Peace

Artist Of The Week - The Icarus Account

- Artist Of The Week -
This photo is from their Facebook. I added their names for those of you that don't know who they are!

Our Artist Of The Week is The Icarus Account also known as Ty and Trey Turner. Twin brothers Ty and Trey are an acoustic, pop duo from Fort Myers, Florida. They started following my Street Noise account on twitter a few months back and that's how I heard about them. I started checking them out to see what kind of music they played. When i discovered they record and perform all of their music (that I have found at least) acoustically I was impressed. For me, acoustic performances are more raw and intimate. There is no auto-tune for the artist to hide behind or a beat to compete with. It gives the listeners the chance to really hear the artist(s) true talent. That's exactly what you get to hear when you listen to the music these brothers make.
While Trey and Ty are twins, they each have their own unique sound that sets them a part from the other. When combined together on the same track they deliver this amazing harmony with their two voices. I feel like they are truly underrated as musicians and hope to see that change in the near future. We need more artists like this on the radio and on tour. As far as I can tell they are unsigned, but that doesn't mean they can't get air time on major radio stations. Trey and Ty are definitely two entertainers I will continue to watch as they grow and succeed in the music world. Hopefully I will one day have the chance to see them live. ~Christina Peace

Artist Of The Week - Michelle Chamuel

Finally, the madness has subsided here. I get to write my first official blog since my hiatus these past few weeks. Thank you to those of you supporting the new nail polish line 'Playlist Polish' (see last blog for more information). But more importantly, a MASSIVE THANK YOU to those of you reading and supporting this blog. The love and support that is shown is truly appreciated. Thank you. ~Christina Peace

Now, to why you came here. I am so excited to be doing this blog. I saved it for this week because I wanted to make sure I had the time to focus and really write about Michelle Chamuel. Like most of you, I heard about Michelle once she auditioned for NBC's The Voice. She appeared in the third episode of season four singing Katy Perry's 'I Kissed A Girl'. Her performance grabbed the attention of judges Adam, Shakira and Usher. Ultimately Michelle went with team Usher.
Michelle had auditioned for The Voice before, but this was the first time she made it to the blind auditions. Prior to The Voice she was doing music as a solo artist and went by the name The Reverb Junkie. She went on to join a band by the name of My Dear Disco which was later changed to Ella Riot. Here is the music I found that she released prior to The Voice.

Dance Think (2009):
(Is this also 'My Dear Disco' that was released in 2007? I couldn't find any releases from that year)

The Remixes (2010):

Acapellas (2010):

Love Child (2011):

All The Pretty People (2012):

S/He (2011/2012):

Odd Year & The Reverb Junkie (2012):

(This may not be all the albums or EP's Michelle has released, but this is what I found doing my research. If you have any more links please leave them in the comments below. I would love to have them and would gladly add them to the blog.)

During her time on The Voice, Michelle captivated viewers everywhere. She delivered an entertaining and incredible performance every time she took to the stage. From her audition singing 'I Kissed A Girl' to 'Time After Time' which she dedicated to her coach Usher; Michelle gave performances that left viewers in awe and wanting wanting more. I was sad to see that she didn't win The Voice, but she still won in other ways. She opened so many peoples eyes and minds as to what it means to be an entertainer. You don't have to fit some mold with your look or sound. It's okay to be your self and to be different. Think outside the box and make moves that others aren't. It works well for her and she has gained thousands if not millions of adoring fans.
Michelle is a rare find in the music industry, meaning that she's not just beautiful on the outside, but she's beautiful on the inside as well. Then there's her voice, she's can go from being soulful and elegant to raw and edgy in the same song. Her range blows my mind and I can't wait to see what she puts out next. I know I will have it on repeat for at least a week! Like the rest of her fans, I'm waiting for a tour and especially for one or more of the tour dates to be in Asheville, NC! (Hint, Hint!!) I have faith that she will have success in all she does and I know the upcoming music will be great.
I thought I would post some songs and videos below of some of my favorites from Michelle. There are also links further down the page so make sure you check them out as well. Dance, vibe out and just enjoy the following! ~Christina Peace
